One killed, three injured as soldiers open fire on mourners

Some men in millitary uniform, have allegedly shot and killed one mourner and wounded three others at Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

The victims were among some colleague mourners who were on their way to a cemetery to bury a friend on Thursday, April 24, at about 11:00am when the suspects heading towards Bibiani.

The sad incident occurred in Nyinahin, Ashanti Region, where soldiers in a military vehicle with registration number 73 GA 39 heading towards Bibiani, opened fire on them

According to eyewitnesses, the soldiers, stopped and confronted the deceased, Akwasi Lala alias Kushivi, 37, who was wearing a military uniform.

The soldiers ordered the deceased to remove the uniform, and as he attempted to remove, one of the soldiers out of nowhere shot him in the head, killing him spot.

After their heinous crime, they then fired indiscriminately into the crowd, which resulted in three others;;Kofi Agyapong, 44; Alfred Kwarteng, 24; and Kofi Owusu alias Juve, 36 sustaining deep wounds.

With the help of their colleagues, they were quickly rushed to the Nyinahin Government Hospital for treatment, whiles the deceased has also been deposited at the Nyinahin community mortuary awaiting autopsy.

Meanwhile, the suspect after their fiendish crime failed to stop at nearby police check points and sped off.

The police from Nyinahin who visited the crime scene and retrieved 18 empty shells.

The incident has sparked concern, and investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
