Galamsey pit collapses on five
Five persons have been reported dead after a mining pit collapsed on them at a galamsey site at Mpasatia in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
Eyewitnesses say, the five miners, whose identities have not been disclosed, were trapped in the pit for several hours on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
Meanwhile two of the victims have been retrieved and confirmed dead at the Afari Hospital.
The remaining three are still trapped in the pit, covered with heaps of sand, making it extremely difficult for rescue teams to retrieve them.
SWIFTNEWS gathered that residents, along with security agencies, are working tirelessly to rescue the remaining three individuals as of the time of filing this report.
The bodies of the two deceased miners have been deposited at the Afari Hospital morgue for preservation and identification.
