MoMo vendor gruesomely murdered at Kwadaso

A 25-year old Mobile Money (MoMo) vendor, has been gruesomely murdered in his room at an area closed to the Kwadaso Onion Market in the Kwadaso Municipality of the Ashanti Region .

The deceased identified as Junior from Ejisu Onwe was found dead on Monday morning, three days after last seen by his friends and neighbours.

The incident, according to some residents, is believed to have occurred on Saturday, March 8, 2025 after the deceased had returned home with a substantial amount of overGH₵200,000 from the Race Course.

Some friends of the deceased raised alarm of his whereabouts after he had not been seen.

“We last saw him on Saturday evening after he had returned from work. We didn’t see him the whole of Sunday and attempt to reach him on phone proved unsuccessful,” a friend of the deceased said.

A formal report was made at the Suntreso District police on Monday morning and a search in the deceased room found him in with his mouth taped with cellophane tape and hands tied at his back and strangulated.

The said amount found on him on Saturday was nowhere to be found, raising suspicion of a foul play.

The deceased according to some residents and friends was known to be hardworking and diligent individual who worked at the Kumasi Race Course.

They suspect that the killers may have been motivated by the large sum of money he had in his possession.

Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation into Junior’s murder, but no arrest has been made yet.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at a morgue for autopsy and preservation.

Junior’s death serves as a reminder of the risks and challenges faced by mobile money vendors, who often handle large amounts of cash and are vulnerable to robbery and violence.

The incident has also raised concerns about the safety and security of market traders and vendors in the region.

It will be recalled that similar incident happened at Krofrom, a suburb of Kumasi when one Patricia Nimako, a MoMo vendor was dastardly shot and killed by suspected armed robbers who bolted with an amount of GH₵10,000 and mobile phones three weeks ago.

As the police continue to investigate Junior’s murder, the community is calling for justice and an end to this violence that has claimed the life of a young and promising individual.
