Approach your work with passion and integrity- Kwabre Kenyasehene counsels journalists

Barima Fredua Agyemang Ababio II, chief of Kwabre Kenyase in the Ashanti Region, has admonished journalists to approach their work with passion and integrity, reminding them that every story should be thoroughly fact-checked before publication.

“It is crucial to report stories that serve the nation’s interests rather than parochial interests,” he said, stressing that political motivations often cloud objective and credible reporting.

Addressing the challenges posed by the increasing number of journalists, Barima Ababio II warned that the rush to be first in reporting could lead to a decline in credible news. “Genuine news can sometimes be scarce as many prioritize speed over accuracy,” he noted, calling for a collective effort among journalists to uphold high standards in their reporting.

The traditional ruler made these remarks at a Thanksgiving Service and Get-together ceremony organized by the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Friday, March 7 2025.

The event brought together members of the media fraternity in the region, security personnel, traditional rulers and representatives from various political parties, particularly the two main political parties; the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Barima Fredua Agyemang Ababio II, who was the chairman for the occasion, also shared his personal experiences with false accusations regarding land disputes, urging journalists to verify facts before publishing sensitive stories about chiefs and elders.

“I have personally faced such accusations. It is vital to uncover the truth rather than pursuing personal interests,” he asserted.

The Chief of Kwabre Kenyasi, also underscored the critical role of journalists in fostering development and peace in the region. He emphasized the need for unity and integrity within the journalism community to combat misinformation and uphold the truth.

“We cannot develop the Ashanti region without journalists, highlighting the essential partnership between traditional leaders and media professionals in driving progress,” he added.

As part of his commitment to supporting journalists and building a strong bond with them, he extended an invitation to the media to his upcoming homecoming event slates for March 21, 2025, where he will inaugurate a new market aimed at benefiting the community. “We deeply value your contributions, as our work cannot proceed without your support,” he noted.
