Video: Yaw Owusu Obimpeh wins Ashanti Region Council of State election rerun

The rerun of the Ashanti Region Council of State Election held today, has been won by Yaw Owusu Obimpeh, a former Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Owusu Obimpeh secured 46 votes to emerge as the winner, while his closet contender, Nana Nkansah Boadu Ayeboafo secured a total of 35 votes, with Daniel Owusu Anarfi had just a vote.
However, one delegate was absent with no vote spoilt.
The initial polls held at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council last Tuesday ended abruptly ad thugs disrupted the process by assaulting journalists were filming the incident.
Officials of the Electoral Commissioners were also assaulted and having some of the ballot papers and boxes were destroyed.
The venue for the council of state elections re-run was held at the Prempeh Assembly, instead of the RCC where machomen caused chaos.
Ashanti Regional Chairman for the NDC, Augustus Nana Kwasi Andrews, expressed gratitude to the delagates for voting for Yaw Owusu Obimpeh.
He also commended all stakeholders for ensuring a peaceful election.
He assured that Ashanti Region’s representative on the Council of State would effectively represent the region’s interests.
