Change of government not a license to horse around – Asantehene condemns Obuasi Violent clash

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has chid some supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) who are horsing around because their party is in government.

According to His Royal Majesty, change of government should not give anyone the chance to misbehave and has called on the security agencies to be proactive in maintaining law and order and to ensure that those who engage in lawless activities are brought to justice.

The Asantehene was reacting to the recent clash between some illegal miners at Obuasi and millitary station at the AngloGold Ashanti concrssion in Obuasi which resulted in nine persons losing their lives.

Managers of the AngloGold Ashanti were at the Manhyia Palace to brief him on the incident.

After being briefed, Asantehene expressed deedo worry and disappointment over the issue, stressing that change of government is not a license for victorious party supporters to fool around or destroy state’s properties.

His Royal Majesty who has also frown against illegal mining called on the government not to encourage this dastardly activity and called on all responsible authorities to ensure illegal mining is not entertained.

“Illegal mining should not be encouraged by anybody, not even the government. And the change in government should not give people the opportunity to horsearound” the Asante Monarch stressed.

The Asantehene urged the government to take swift action to address the issue of illegal mining, which has been a major concern for the country.
