President Mahama Would Ensure Conversation on Constitution Amendment is Conclude, Edudzi Tameklo

Director of Legal Affairs and Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mr Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, has re-affirmed the commitment of President John Dramani Mahama to ensure that the conversation on the constitutional amendment is concluded.

Reacting on the appointment of the eminent committee of the constitutional review to pursue the amendment process of the constitution to the media, he stated that the President is aware of his four years mandate, and that the amendment process of the constitution was a campaign promise that he would lead the amendment of the constitution process.

He disclosed that the president did not renege on the process while he was president from 2013 to 20,17 but he allowed the Supreme Court process to go through, that stalled the process and by the time the apex court of the land was done with it’s process it was already in the 2016 general elections that brought about the challenged.

Mr Tameklo expressed optimism that with the bi-partisan and support from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), he is confident that president John Dramani Mahama is going to ensure that the campaign promise is fulfill and the preparation that requires either referendum or Parliamentary approval would be able to conclude.

He stressed that with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) having about One Hundred and Eighty Three (183) parliamentarians with four (4) independent Parliamentarians at their side of the house, they would be able to get the constitution amended.

The current members of the constitutional review committee includes Prof. H Kwasi Prempeh, Chairman, Dr Rainer Akumperigeya secretary, Dr Godwin Djokoto, Charlotte Osei, Dr Esi Ansah, Justice Sophia Adenyira and Prof. Kwame Karikari.
