Alban Bagbin Nominated As The Speaker For The 9th Parliament

THE PRESIDENT-ELECT, John Dramani Mahama, has mandated the parliamentary leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to nominate the Right Honourable Speaker, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament of the 4th Republic.

The nomination was done in consultation with the National Executive and Parliamentary Leadership of the party.

In a press release signed by the Special Aide to the President-Elect, Felix Ofosu Kwakye, the Right Honourable Speaker was described as someone with experience for the position, who has proven himself for the role.

“He brings a wealth of experience to the position, which will prove vital in steering the affairs of Parliament at this crucial period in Ghana’s Democratic and legislative development, ” part of the letter read.

John Mahama also eulogised the Right Honourable Speaker for distinguishing himself in the service of Parliament, rising from being a Member of Parliament for Nadowli to Minority and Majority Leader in that order and subsequently as Speaker of the 8th Parliament.

The President-elect is convinced that under the leadership of the Right Honourable Speaker Alban Bagbin, Ghana’s Parliament will be further strengthened to deliver effectively on its oversight responsibilities.
