NDC’s Faustina Akurugu Declared MP Elect For Dome Kwabenya

Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, the NDC parliamentary candidate, has been declared winner of the Dome Kwabenya parliamentary seat in the 2024 elections by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

She polled 50,967 votes, whilst her main opponet from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Aaron Michael Ocquaye Jr., managed 50,669 votes.

This is the first time the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has succesfully secured the Dome Kwabenya parliamentary seat.

The Dome Kwabenya NDC parliamentary candidate, was declared the winner by the Electoral Commission (EC) on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, after an emergency meeting of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC).

Confirming the declaration of the results, the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Jean Mensa, stated that she was convinced beyond any reasonable doubt the outcome of the results having travelled the full cycle.

The incumbent NPP MP for the area, Sarah Adwoa Safo lost to Mike Ocquaye Jr in the NPP parliamentary primaries early this year, paving way for him to contest with the NDC MP Elect.

Dome Kwabenya Constituency is predominantly an NPP strong and the seat has been held on by Adwoa Safo for the past 12 years.

Faustina Akurugu works as Self-Employed. She is a product of the Methodist University College Ghana and University of Ghana. She had her senior secondary education at Bolga Girls Secondary School.
