Benni McCarthy To Take Charge of Harambee Stars

FORMER Bafana Bafana player, Benni McCarthy is set to be appointed as the new head coach of Kenya’s national team, the Harambee Stars,

The South African legend is set to replace Engin Firat afterFrancis Kimanzi’s interim stint.

McCarthy has already accepted an offer from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) and will come along with one assistant, while FKF will provide another to complete his technical team.

McCarthy’s impressive résumé includes coaching roles at Manchester United as a first-team coach and at AmaZulu in South Africa.

McCarthy is expected to bring his rich and extensive experience to bolster Kenya’s preparations ahead of CHAN and other international competitions.

His coaching career spans from being the head coach of South African side AmaZulu and as a first-team coach of English Premier league side, Manchester United.

Benni McCarthy remains South Africa national teams all- time top scorer with 31 goals and the only South African to have won the UEFA Champions League with Portuguese side Porto in 2003/2004.

Having had 79 appearances for the South Africa national team, McCarthy managed to score 31 goals before hanging his boots on June 6 2013.
